Jahrhundert war die Stadt ein Zentrum der Piraterie und des Plünderns von Schiffswracks. Später im 19. Jahrhundert lebten die Bewohner von der Zigarrenindustrie, dem Schwammtauchen und der Jagd nach Meeresschildkröten. Mit der Entwicklung der Eisenbahnlinien im Jahr 1912 wuchs der Tourismus. On the lively Bay Street, shoppers will find a wide range of luxurious goods, while typical items can be purchased at the Straw Market.
