A few kilometers to the east is the famous port city of Puerto Plata with 130,000 inhabitants, named after Christopher Columbus. This is where the first permanent settlement in the "New World" was located. From Puerto Plata, you can visit the mountain Isabel de Torres, which is located in the national park of the same name, by cable car. The fort "Fortaleza San Felipe", which today houses a museum, is also worth seeing.

Since 1983, San Juan has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The new San Juan advertises with luxurious resort hotels, casinos, and upscale nightclubs. Im hügeligen Nordwesten der Insel befindet sich der Mountain Top, der einen Blick auf 19 umliegende Jungferninseln bietet. Eine Fahrt mit dem U-Boot Atlantis Submarine ist ebenfalls ein unvergessliches Erlebnis. Sehenswürdigkeiten sind das Historische Museum Fort Christian, das Coral World Observatory, die Frederick Lutheran Church, die Regierungsgebäude auf dem Government Hill, die Venussäule auf dem Magnolia Hill und die Synagoge auf dem Crystal Glade.

From here, all Apollo missions and Space Shuttles were launched. Port Canaveral has evolved from a small oil and shrimp port to one of the world`s largest cruise ports, with over 3 million passengers per year. Worth seeing is the 300-meter-long pier that extends out into the open sea with numerous restaurants, bars, and shops.
