Embark on an 8-day cruise adventure in the Eastern Caribbean, departing from Miami and sailing towards San Juan aboard the Seven Seas Splendor ship. Day 2: Key West (Florida), USA. Arrival time: 07:00. Departure time: 14:00. Duration of port stay: 7 hours. Key West is the southernmost city in Florida on the main island of the Florida Keys. It is a very touristic city that captivates with its subtropical cheerfulness, relaxed way of life, and Caribbean flair. In the early 19th century, the city thrived on piracy and salvaging sunken ships. In the later 19th century, the residents relied on the cigar industry, sponge diving, and hunting for sea turtles. With the expansion of railroad lines in 1912, tourism began to flourish. The most famous resident of the city is Ernest Hemingway, who lived in Key West in the 1930s and 1940s. The Duval Street in the Old Town is definitely worth a visit, with its colorful mix of small shops, bars, and restaurants. Key West also has numerous small museums, such as the Key West Aquarium. One of the most famous attractions is the nightly observation of the sunset at the Mallory Square Docks: Tourists, locals, street performers, and street vendors gather on the beach and promenade to witness this event. Usually, there is also a fireworks display afterwards.
Day 3: Sea day.
Day 4: Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. Arrival time: 07:00. Departure time: 15:00. Duration of port stay: 8 hours. Puerto Plata is one of the oldest cities in the Dominican Republic, founded in 1496 by Columbus` brother Bartolomeo. In the 19th century, the city experienced an economic boom through its port. The old town is worth seeing, mostly consisting of wooden houses in Victorian Gingerbread style. In the narrow streets around the Parque Central, with a nostalgic Glorieta pavilion, there are numerous small shops, restaurants, and cafes. The sights include the San Felipe fortress, built in the 16th century to protect against pirate attacks. Right next to it is the harbor, where stranded ships remind of hurricanes that swept across the coast.
Day 5: Charlotte Amalie (St. Thomas), US Virgin Islands. Arrival time: 12:00. Departure time: 21:00. Duration of port stay: 9 hours. Charlotte Amalie is the capital of the US Virgin Islands on Saint Thomas. It is known as a lively city with numerous duty-free shops. Worth seeing are the "Fort Christian", one of the oldest buildings on the island, the "Frederic Lutheran Church", the "Government House", "Blackbeards Castle", and the "Market Square". Formerly, slave auctions took place there, but today fruits and vegetables are sold.
Day 6: St. John`s (Antigua), Antigua and Barbuda. Arrival time: 10:00. Departure time: 21:00. Duration of port stay: 11 hours. St. John`s is the capital and only deep-water port of the mini-state of Antigua and Barbuda in the northeastern Caribbean. Clear water and hundreds of beaches with fine sand surround the city. Since you can shop duty-free on the island, you will find a variety of fashion boutiques, electronics stores, and jewelers directly at Heritage Quay, close to the port. Traditional crafts, straw dolls, masks, and exotic colorful fashion can be found in the former slave quarters. The building of the former British colonial court now houses the Museum of Antigua and Barbuda, with exhibits from the colonial era and the slave trade. The St. John`s Cathedral with two Georgian bell towers sits on a hill overlooking the city. Sugar cane is mainly cultivated in the plantations in the surrounding area. Disembarkation after breakfast between 8:00 and 9:30 am.
Day 7: Gustavia, Saint Barthélemy. Arrival time: 08:00. Departure time: 18:00. Duration of port stay: 10 hours. Gustavia is the capital of St. Barth`s, an island in the Lesser Antilles. In the 18th century, the island belonged to Sweden for a time. The city owes its name to the former King Gustav III. Gustavia is characterized by low stone and wooden houses. Numerous exclusive boutiques and duty-free luxury stores invite you to stroll around. In the evening, people gather in one of the many restaurants and bars in the bustling center. Sightseeing attractions include the Wall House, the historical museum of Saint Barth, and the old bell tower. Fort Gustave offers a view of the island.
Day 8: San Juan, Puerto Rico. Arrival time: 07:00. San Juan, the capital of the US American island of Puerto Rico in the Greater Antilles, is considered the oldest American city. Expeditions to explore the New World started from here. The historic old town with the university, the La Fortaleza fortress, the gothic cathedral, and the historic buildings from the Spanish colonial period are worth seeing. Since 1983, San Juan has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The new San Juan advertises with luxurious resort hotels, casinos, and upscale nightclubs. Nature lovers can explore the nearby rainforest with its mountain lakes and waterfalls from here.
