Attractions: The old town, the fish market, the replica of the "Torre de Belém" from Lisbon, which is the landmark of the city.
Day 9: Beach (Island of São Tiago), Cape Verde. Arrival time: 09:00. Departure time: 19:00. Duration of port stay: 10 hours. São Tiago, with its capital Praia, is the most African of the Cape Verde Islands. Especially adventurous is a ride in the "aluguer," the Cape Verdean shared taxi, to Assomada, where a large, African-style market takes place twice a week. The center of the city is the Plaça 12 de Septembro, surrounded by 19th-century buildings: to the southeast by the church Nossa Senhora da Graça and the imposing Palace of Justice, and to the southwest by the Ministry of the Interior and the Banco Comércio do Atlántico on Avenida Amilcar Cabral, which runs across the entire plateau. Also worth seeing is the new Museu Ethnográfico, located to the north of the market.

The city is known as the destination of the world-famous intercontinental motorsport rally from Paris to Dakar. Cultural and scientific highlights of the city include the University founded in 1957, the research institute "Institut Fondamental d`Afrique Noire" (IFAN), and museums.
